County Youth Dance Company is wgytc’s sister company.

CYDC builds on the nationally renowned work of the former West Glamorgan Youth Dance Company, which between 1981 and 1997 created over forty original dance pieces.  Many former students have gone on to establish successful careers within the Performing Arts. The work of the Company aims to develop the dancers’ skills through an educational structure involving technique and creative tasks..

CYDC Dance Days Festival

The Artistic Directors and professional practitioners working with the CYDC aim to promote and support the further development of contemporary dance training, education and performance.

CYDC work on three projects a year: the Winter project involves performing in the Dance House in Cardiff as part of the National Dance Company of Wales youth gala, as well as performing in the Taliesin, alongside students of Gower College Swansea; the Spring project is performed at the Taliesin Arts Centre; and the Summer project is a site specific piece that is performed as part of the Dance Days Festival in Swansea, organised by the Taliesin.

Taliesin Arts Centre is a major partner and a champion for the work of the Company. It is our aim to have a programme of events that will facilitate contemporary dance continually rather than just on an annual basis.  This is being achieved thanks to the partnership between the Taliesin Arts Centre and Gower College Swansea – all of which have a commitment to arts education and support for young people. Our joint ambition is that the provision of quality contemporary dance activity for the young people in this area will be secured for the future

The Graduate Company is an offshoot of CYDC which was established in 2007, it involves students who have begun higher education training or are currently in work.  Its aim is to nurture their talents as well as inspire the younger members of the company.  They rehearse and create a piece in three days with a professional choreographer, as part of the Spring Project.
